Launch of New Program | Reshaping Lives CA

September 13, 2016

Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery, in partnership with the Plasticos Foundation is launching a new local medical initiative aimed at providing much needed reconstructive surgical care to individuals throughout California. The aptly named ReShapingLivesCA mission will offer reconstructive plastic surgery to area residents who are unable to receive reconstructive surgery for various reasons. The launch of this critical new program will commence in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with plastic surgeons Dr. Larry Nichter and Dr. Jed Horowitz providing free breast reconstruction surgery to select women in the Orange County area.

Dr. Horowitz and Dr. Nichter are launching ReShapingLivesCA in Orange County as a way of giving back to the community which has given them so much over the two decades they have been practicing plastic surgery in the area. As the program grows, they will be expanding their reach throughout the State of California.

Starting in October, the doctors will begin screening prospective patients and select the cases they feel meet their criteria for receiving free reconstructive breast surgery. Those who are selected will be contacted by the Plasticos Foundations with further details. For more information about ReShapingLivesCA and to complete an application for consideration, CLICK HERE.

ABOUT PLASTICOS FOUNDATION

Dr. Larry Nichter, a Newport Beach plastic surgeon, founded the Plasticos Foundation in 1999. Years laster his partner, Dr. Jed Horowitz, joined him in the mission to help others receive the medical care they need, but cannot or may not have access to.

The Plasticos Foundation provides reconstructive plastic surgery to those in need, as well as, surgical training to residing doctors so proper care can be continued. On average, the Plasticos Foundation team of volunteers travel to impoverished regions of the world two or more times per year. In these countries, children are frequently born with congenital disfigurements such as cleft lip and palate. It is believed that most cases of cleft lip and palate are a result of both genetic and environmental factors. For example, a baby may carry a gene that makes them more susceptible to developing a cleft, but will not form one until it is triggered by an environmental factor. In many under developed countries, this type of deformity is often times perceived negatively by society, resulting in children being shamed and hidden from others. Acute burns are another common disfigurement seen. The use of kerosene to cook and heat can result in unintentional injury. Shockingly, in some areas, girls are intentionally set ablaze as punishment for things society frowns upon. The Plasticos Foundation team of nurses and doctors travel to these areas to provide much needed corrective, surgery, so these children and their families can have an improved quality of life.

Wow! Not only am I thrilled with my results, I also must say that this experience was so much easier than I thought it would be! From the virtual consultation, to the virtual appointments that I had after my surgery… they made it so easy to check in with my doctor. I don’t live in Newport, but it didn’t matter. I was still able to get the surgery that I wanted there! 10/10 would recommend!!
