Plasticos Foundation Visits Armenia and Bhutan

October 13, 2013

We are happy to report that the Plasticos Foundation just completed two very successful humanitarian trips overseas. Dr. Horowitz and Eileen (Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery manager), along with a volunteer medical staff traveled to Armenia, while Dr. Nichter went to Bhutan as part of a Global Burn Care Reconstructive Institute Mission.

After months of preparation both teams set off to provide much needed medical care to children and orphans suffering from cleft lip. cleft palate, and burn contractures. On evaluation day families lined up to determine if their child was a candidate for surgery, and some traveled as long as 8 hours hoping their case would be accepted. One of our team members in Armenia, Dr. Suzy Voskanyan, even brought children from local orphanages for screening.

Once the teams determined which children were candidates for surgery, they worked round the clock to prepare for the tireless days ahead of them. In the days following, many surgeries were performed and the children were headed down the road to recovery. For some, the healing process will be easier than others, but, in the end, all of the young boys and girls will now have an improved quality of life.

Wow! Not only am I thrilled with my results, I also must say that this experience was so much easier than I thought it would be! From the virtual consultation, to the virtual appointments that I had after my surgery… they made it so easy to check in with my doctor. I don’t live in Newport, but it didn’t matter. I was still able to get the surgery that I wanted there! 10/10 would recommend!!
