Botox

Botox is an injectable medication used to rejuvenate the appearance of wrinkled skin.  It temporarily weakens the muscles that create wrinkles acting as a great alternative to surgery.  Botox treatments offer excellent results with few side effects.

It is most commonly used to treat wrinkles in areas such as:

  • Frown lines
  • Smile lines (crow's feet)
  • Forehead
  • Neck

Botox is typically administered through a series of treatments lasting between 3 and 8 months.  Oftentimes, two or three sessions are needed early on to get a good baseline result, similar to the use of collagen.  The details and specific length of treatment are determined on an individual basis.   After the series is complete, patients may require touch ups that occur less frequently and administer less medication.

Juvederm

Juvederm is the latest technology of dermal fillers; it is used to replenish areas of the face where youthful fullness may have faded.   It is made from a compound that naturally occurs in the body, known as hyaluronic acid, which fills in the space between collagen and elastin fibers of the skin.  As the skin ages, the presence of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid is reduced, creating a loss of volume in the skin, thus generating folds and wrinkles.  The effects of Juvederm are often long lasting and following injection, the area can actually be molded to create the desired natural look.

Injections of Juvederm fill the natural folds to restore a full and smoother appearance.
Common areas of injection are:

  • Nasolabial folds (lines near the corners of the mouth running to the nose)
  • Wrinkles on upper or lower face
  • Lipstick lines
  • Lip plumping

Restylane & Perlane

Similar to Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane are dermal fillers used to replenish areas of the face where youthful fullness may have faded.   Restylane and Perlane are made from a compound that naturally occurs in the body, known as hyaluronic acid, which fills in the space between collagen and elastin fibers of the skin.  As the skin ages, the presence of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid is reduced, creating a loss of volume in the skin, thus generating folds and wrinkles.

The primary differences between the hyaluronic fllers is that the effects of Juvederm last the longest and Perlane is used as a deeper filler (often in the nasal labial folds).  The choice between the dermal hyaluronic fillers is based on patient preference and any questions may be discussed with our administering RN.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a product that promotes the rebuilding of collagen below the surface of the skin. The treatments reduce signs of aging by restoring lost facial volume.  Unlike the dermal fillers, the results may last up to two years or longer. This treatment however, does require 2-3 sessions 6-8 weeks apart.  Sculptra treatments restore a natural fullness to the face by creating natural collagen that will age with you.

Sculptra treats areas such as:

  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Sunken checks
  • Indentations (in the temple region)
  • Hollows under the eyes
  • Larger areas of the face

Sculptra uses a poly-L-lactic acid derived from natural components.  The sculptra is injected in an area under the skin’s surface that demonstrates a visible loss of fat.  This will naturally generate the growth of new collagen, thus results will become noticeable throughout the first few treatments. Following treatment sessions, the collagen will continue to develop increasing the volume of the area under the skin’s surface.

The number of treatments will depend on the patient and the desired are of treatment.  Following treatment, the patient may experience redness, tenderness, minor swelling or bruising; these signs will subside within a few hours to a few days.
